How to maintain your Water Softener

  • Regular Maintenance

    1. 1. Check Salt Levels:

Check your brine tank at least once a month to ensure it is adequately supplied with salt.

Keep the salt level above the water line and at least half-full to prevent undissolved salt from sticking to the tank walls and to ensure efficTo maintain a water softener, regularly check and refill the salt level in the brine tank, keeping it at least half-full. Every six months, clean the brine tank to remove sludge and salt buildup by emptying, scrubbing with a mild soap and water, and rinsing thoroughly. Also, inspect for leaks, salt bridges (hard crusts of salt), and sediment in the venturi valve. Consider a deep cleaning of the resin tank with a water softener cleaner every few months.ient regeneration.

    1. 3. Break Salt Bridges:

If you notice a hard crust or "salt bridge" forming in the tank, carefully break it up to allow the salt to dissolve properly.

    1. 4. Inspect for Leaks:

Periodically check the pipes and connections for any signs of leaks or wear, and address them promptly to prevent water waste and damage.

    Periodic Maintenance

    1. 1. Clean the Brine Tank:

Every six months, or when the salt supply is low, completely empty the brine tank. Remove any salt clumps and clean the tank's interior with warm water and a mild detergent, rinsing thoroughly to remove residue.

    1. 2. Clean the Venturi Valve:

Unscrew and remove the venturi valve twice a year. Clean its internal parts with soapy water to remove any sediment or dirt, ensuring the water flow during regeneration remains smooth.

    1. 3. Flush the Resin Tank:

Pour a water softener cleaner into the brine tank every few months and start a regeneration cycle to clean the resin beads and maintain the softener's efficiency.

    1. 4. Consider a Professional Service:

Have a qualified technician perform an annual check-up to ensure optimal performance and catch any potential issues early.

    What to Avoid

    • Harsh Chemicals: Avoid using bleach or abrasive cleaning compounds to clean the brine tank.

    • Overfilling: Do not stack heavy objects on the softener's salt storage tank or timer cover.

    • Neglecting the Manual: Always check your owner's manual before using any cleaner or performing any maintenance to ensure compatibility with your specific model.
